About Peace

Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in all ways. The Lord be with you all.

Context: Paul closes with a blessing that names Jesus as the Lord of peace and asks for peace that reaches every time and circumstance.

For a child is born to us. A son is given to us; and the government will be on his shoulders. His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, in the power of the Holy Spirit.

You will keep whoever’s mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you. Trust in Yahweh forever; for in Yah, Yahweh, is an everlasting Rock.

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, Yahweh alone, make me live in safety.

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls.”

Context: Jesus offers rest through relationship and discipleship with him, exchanging crushing burdens for his gentle leadership.

Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, I give to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.

Context: Jesus speaks to his disciples on the night before the crucifixion. His peace is given in the presence of coming grief and uncertainty, not after every problem disappears.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; who comforts us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, through the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

Context: Paul describes comfort received from God becoming comfort shared with other people who suffer.

Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

Context: The psalm does not shame brokenhearted people; it names God as near and attentive to them.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Context: The psalm finds courage and comfort in the Shepherd’s presence while walking through danger, not by avoiding the valley.

Yahweh will give strength to his people. Yahweh will bless his people with peace.

Context: A psalm celebrating God’s powerful voice ends with strength and peace given together to his people.

Being therefore justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ;

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.

Context: Paul places peace inside a community practicing compassion, forgiveness, love, worship, and gratitude together.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.

Context: Jesus blesses people who actively make peace, reflecting the reconciling character of their Father.

If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men.

So then, let’s follow after things which make for peace, and things by which we may build one another up.

Context: In a community divided over disputable practices, Paul joins peacemaking with mutual encouragement rather than winning every argument.

Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

Context: James contrasts selfish ambition with wisdom that is pure, gentle, reasonable, merciful, and fruitful in peace.
