About Strength

Then he said to them, “Go your way. Eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared, for today is holy to our Lord. Don’t be grieved, for the joy of Yahweh is your strength.”

Context: After hearing the Law, the restored community is called to holy joy, generosity, and renewed life together.

David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the souls of all the people were grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters; but David strengthened himself in Yahweh his God.

Context: At one of his lowest moments, David turns to God before taking his next step.

Let’s not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season if we don’t give up.

Context: Paul encourages steady faithfulness and generosity when doing good becomes tiring.

Yahweh himself is who goes before you. He will be with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be discouraged.

Context: Moses speaks directly to Joshua, assuring him that God goes ahead into the unknown.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Context: Paul closes Ephesians by calling the church to stand together in strength that belongs to the Lord.

For the Chief Musician. By David the servant of Yahweh, who spoke to Yahweh the words of this song in the day that Yahweh delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul. He said, I love you, Yahweh, my strength. Yahweh is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower.

Context: David responds to deliverance by naming God—not himself—as his strength, rock, refuge, and defender.

Yahweh will give strength to his people. Yahweh will bless his people with peace.

Context: A psalm celebrating God’s powerful voice ends with strength and peace given to his people.

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Context: Paul’s blessing connects hope, joy, and peace with the Holy Spirit’s power in a diverse church.

Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or scared of them, for Yahweh your God himself is who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you.

Context: Moses prepares Israel for transition and uncertainty by pointing them to God’s faithful presence.

Watch! Stand firm in the faith! Be courageous! Be strong!

Context: These compact closing commands call a divided church to alert, courageous, love-shaped faithfulness.

For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.

Context: Paul encourages Timothy to use his gift boldly and to endure hardship without being governed by fear.

So that with good courage we say, “The Lord is my helper. I will not fear. What can man do to me?”

Context: Confidence in God’s presence frees believers from fear and from making security their ultimate pursuit.

He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.

Context: Paul learns that Christ’s power is displayed through dependence rather than through the removal of every limitation.

Yet, looking to the promise of God, he didn’t waver through unbelief, but grew strong through faith, giving glory to God, and being fully assured that what he had promised, he was also able to perform. Therefore it also was “credited to him for righteousness.”

Context: Abraham’s strength is described as trust in God’s promise, not confidence in favorable circumstances.

Then he answered and spoke to me, saying, “This is Yahweh’s word to Zerubbabel, saying, ‘Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says Yahweh of Armies.

Context: The rebuilding work will be completed through God’s Spirit rather than merely through human resources.

“Every word of God is flawless. He is a shield to those who take refuge in him.

Context: Trust grows through God’s tested word and the shelter he provides, not through adding to his promises.
